After a world tour in 7 countries Over View will now land in the Netherlands. We are excited to announce the coming exhibition in Willem II Fabriek in ‘s Hertogenbosch from the 11th of June until the 3rd of July. In the serie ‘This is the Time’ of RAK Projectspace the Dutch participating artists were asked to curate a programme themselves and to exhibit the work of other Dutch artists who they feel are emerging. These works display the ‘what’s on’ in the Netherlands today.

At the opening over the Over View screening at UNSW Galleries in Sydney, on the 6th of November 2015, Liam Benson performed a piece he made for this occasion.
Liam’s performance piece uses the Aboriginal Map of Australia as its base to celebrate, question and challenge the shifting exchange between majority and minority voices within Australia. Gallery visitors and members of the public are invited to join this participatory performance and contribute to an accumulative embroidery work by sewing beads and sequins on the map whilst sitting in conversation with the artist.
For Benson, this is an invitation to acknowledge the broader Australian community - indigenous and non-indigenous. It is also about this space we call Australia and acknowledging that we are part of a broader community. We are, as Benson proclaims, “all exceptionally original in this place”.
Liam’s work is poetically beautiful in its ability to simultaneously critique and confront the incongruity that is inherent to an Australian identity. As a performance artist he is able to harness his own experiences as a gay, Anglo Australian male and empathise with multiple experiences of difference

Over two spellbinding days on 6 – 7 November 2015, dLux MediaArts and UNSW Galleries will present Over View in Sydney.
The exhibition opening (November 6th) will feature a specially commissioned performance art piece by renowned Australian artist LIAM BENSON! Dressed in a handmade ivory Edwardian gown, Benson will inhabit the façade of a 'white lady' and interact with his audience through an act of exchange. Benson will invite participants to discuss their opinions surrounding the notion of whiteness and contribute to a live sequin and thread embroidery session with the artist, on the dress. Participants can design their own image to be drawn on to the dress, or add to other participants designs by assisting the artist in embroidering them with thread and sequins.
The Over View screening program will be supported by a series of artist talks and interviews with participating curators worldwide. Please feel very invited and make sure you don't miss this great event!

Over View is taking steps forward! Next to the realization of the screenings, the project is currenly also focussing on reasearch. Young art historians were invited to display their vision on either the selection of their own country to gain more insight into context, history and artistic developments, or to share their thoughts while investigating the selection of another country. The first article is by the hand of Antonieta Sibaja Hidalgo, part of MADC's Department of Education in Costa Rica. In a highly interesting way, she points out the role of video-art in Central America and explains how all of the Costa Rican artists dealt with the history of their homecountry.

Unfortunately we just received the news that the Ciné à Dos Festival, that would have started today, had to be canceled due to the consequences of the unstable situation in Mali. The Festival will be postponed and the organisation is doing its utmost to achieve this, we keep you informed on this.
We hope improvement is on it's way and faith in Mali will be restored - better sooner than late - so Malians like the crew of Groupe Walaha can continue what they do best: create progress.
